TCS Gives Trusted Technology The Portable Edge
The Perfect Match For Secure, Anytime-Anywhere Computing Market Leading SecureOffice Software Now Runs On Market Leading Portable Unix Hardware
Washington (DC), and Carlsbad (CA), April 11, 2001 - Trusted Computer Solutions, Inc. (TCS), a global leader in next generation information security technology, today announced the availability of SecureOffice™ software for Tadpole-Cycle’s unique lines of portable Sun-Solaris workstations and servers, respectively UltraBookIIi™ and VoyagerIIi™.
The announcement validates the capability of Tadpole's portable workstations and servers to run simultaneously Sun Microsystems’ Trusted Solaris™ operating system, as well as Microsoft Office automation tools in multilevel security networks, all from a single piece of hardware.
SecureOffice, also referred to as the Trusted Work Station (TWS), has internal security mechanisms that maintain a mandatory separation between networks, and provides a secure environment for executing Microsoft Office automation applications at multiple classification levels. Now being installed by the Department of Defense on computing systems worldwide, SecureOffice was granted an Authority to Operate (ATO) by the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) in October 2000.
"Tadpole-Cycle's workstations and servers provide the smallest footprint yet for our trusted workstation technology," said Edward Hammersla, chief operating officer for Trusted Computer Solutions. "With portable Unix running SecureOffice, Tadpole's blue-chip customer base has additional OS choices and more flexibility when they need to access multiple networks at different classification levels from any location in an ultra-secure trusted environment."
"For the first time, Tadpole's customers can use Microsoft Office in a truly secure, trusted software environment," said Barbara Payne, director, government sales at Tadpole-Cycle. "It's the ultimate in Trusted mobile technology and anytime-anywhere computing."
SecureOffice strengthens an organization's security posture through features found in the Trusted Solaris operating system. Three features are of particular appeal to government and commercial customers - privileges and authorizations, which allow users, and processes, only as much access to system resources as necessary to perform specific tasks; label-based access control that is automatically enforced by the system; and roles, providing a fine-grained approach to system administration thereby eliminating the need for the super-user function.
UltraBookIIi is Tadpole-Cycle's flagship portable workstation for enterprise software and e-business application vendors, network service providers, and forward military command information centers. Built around Sun Microsystems’ UltraSPARC IIi™ and Solaris™ technologies, and now available with Trusted SecureOffice, UltraBookIIi has removable disk capacity and RAM up to 75GB and 1GB respectively. One hundred percent binary compatible with Sun desktops and servers, UltraBookIIi can run the full 13,000 plus inventory of Solaris applications, has a 14.1-inch TFT LCD screen, weighs just 7.5lbs and options include a Sun Creatorä 3D graphics module.
VoyagerIIi is the first truly portable SPARC-based Solaris server for software vendors, solution providers, network managers and system administrators. Weighing around 10lbs and one hundred percent binary compatible with Sun servers and desktops, its small footprint the size of a business directory, remarkable 1GB memory, raw SPEC performance and connectivity features are determining features to corporations and government agencies alike. VoyagerIIi's robust 2.5" disks incorporate four high-speed Ultra-DMA controllers, each supporting a single Ultra-IDE disk and arranged as two removable twin packs. The twin packs consist of two 25GB disks, allowing for configurations of 50GB or 100GB.
