The SecureOffice® suite supports a minimal set of hardware and software as part of providing a highly restricted operating environment. Because the SecureOffice suite is typically used as a National Security System, this highly restrictive interface was specifically configured as mandated by NSA to limit the number of functions that might be accessible from a security attack point of view.
Trusted Computer Solutions refers you to the Accessibility Forum, Quick Reference Guide to Section 508 Resource Documents, September 15, 2003, Version 1.0, page 1 for the applicable language.
"When does acquisition of E&IT [Electronic and Information Technology] result in a general section 508 exception?
National Security System?
Section 508 does not apply to E&IT being acquired by a Federal agency where the function, operation, or use involves intelligence activities, cryptologic activities related to national security, command and control of military forces, equipment that is an integral part of a weapon or weapons system, or systems which are critical to the direct fulfillment of military or intelligence missions. This exception does not apply to a system that is to be used for routine administrative and business applications (including payroll, finance, logistics, and personnel management applications).
'Back Office' Exception?
The local interfaces on E&IT located in spaces frequented only by service personnel for maintenance, repair, or occasional monitoring of equipment are not required to comply with section 508. Interfaces and content of such E&IT that can be operated remotely are covered and do not qualify for this exception."
